Gatewen Training Services Secures Unique Collaboration to Address Driver Shortages

Gatewen Training Services has joined forces with Auto Union Finance and Driving Force to provide a complete funding, training and employment package for people seeking to pursue a career in transport and logistics.
The shortage of LGV drivers in the UK has been well documented in recent times. One of the main barriers for many people hoping to enter the industry is the cost of the training coupled with the uncertainty of securing employment following their initial investment.
Gatewen Training Services has formed a unique collaboration to remove this barrier, provide peace of mind to candidates and address driver shortages.
Candidates can now apply directly to Auto Union Finance for the funds they need to complete a driver training course with Gatewen Training Services. Effectively, a loan is agreed between the candidate and finance company. Gatewen Training Services will then support candidates through their driver training qualifications, including the acquisition of C+E licences and CPC training. Successful candidates are given the opportunity to secure employment with Driving Force, one of the UK’s leading specialist driver recruitment agencies, which serves over 100 companies in the Northwest alone.
Commenting on this collaboration, Director of Gatewen Training Services, Julian Hughes, said:
“By introducing candidates to a potential funding source to finance their training, we are offering a viable solution to help them acquire relevant driver qualifications. Gatewen Training Services has no commercial interest in the funding arrangements. This relationship has been formed simply to provide an option for those seeking to enter the transport industry.
As they are required to take out a commercial finance arrangement to fund their training, we wanted to offer secure employment for candidates at the end of their training to ensure they can service the loan. This is where our links with Driving Force have been invaluable.
Driving Force is able to employ successful candidates and help them progress through the transport and logistics sector. The company has formed lasting relationships with many of the UK’s leading brands. Being able to offer guaranteed employment opportunities, as well as a funding source, is a massive benefit to our candidates.”
Highlighting the unique nature of this initiative, John Sutcliffe, Operations Director at Driving Force, said:
“Sourcing HGV drivers is becoming a big issue throughout the industry. Our partnership with Gatewen Training Services is not only unique but also very refreshing for us, as we can now secure employment for candidates as soon as they have completed their training and acquired their HGV licence. By offering funding, training and employment, we hope to attract more people into the industry and begin to address driver shortages.”
