Gatewen Training Service facilitates the delivery of professional LGV Driver Training to individuals and organisations working and operating in the transport industry. As well as practical training, we will support you throughout the entire process of becoming a qualified, competent and confident driver.

B+E Driver Training

Duration: 2 - 3 days

If you passed your driving test after 1st January 1997 and wish to tow a trailer, caravan or horsebox that exceeds 750kg on a vehicle weighing 3,500kg, you are required to pass a practical Category B+E test.

Requirements

  • Class B Licence
  • Module 3 - Practical Test
  • Practical Driver Training

The duration of the training is based on the candidate’s driving experience. If you have no experience of reversing a trailer, we recommend a three-day training course, which allows more time to perfect your manoeuvring skills and increases your chances of passing on your first attempt.

Programme

  • Trailer un-couple and re-couple exercise
  • On-road drive lasting 50 minutes
  • Reverse exercise

LGV Class C1 Driver Training

Duration: 4 - 5 days

Class C1 - rigid vehicles between 3,500kg and 7,500kg

Class C1 drivers can typically earn between £20k and £23k per year. This LGV practical training course for Category C1 Rigid Vehicles is based on 20 hours training over 4 or 5 days. Covering both urban and rural driving, this course trains candidates to drive in a safe, efficient manner.

  • Minimum 18 years old
  • Driver medical
  • Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)

Programme

  • Module 1 - multiple choice and hazard perception theory
  • Module 3 - practical test
  • Practical driver training
    • On-road drive lasting at least one hour
    • Reverse exercise

LGV Class C Driver Training

Duration: 4 - 5 days

Class C - rigid vehicles over 7,500kg

Class C drivers can typically earn between £22k and £26k per year. This LGV practical training course for Category C Rigid Vehicles is based on 20 hours training over 4 or 5 days. Covering both urban and rural driving, this course trains candidates to drive in a safe, efficient manner.

  • Driver medical
  • Module 1 - multiple choice and hazard perception theory
  • Module 3 - practical test
  • Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)

LGV Class C+E Driver Training

Duration: 4 - 5 days

Class C+E - articulated vehicles over 7,500kg

Class C+E drivers can typically earn between £28k and £40k per year. This LGV practical training course for Category C1 Rigid Vehicles is based on 20 hours training over 4 or 5 days. Covering both urban and rural driving, candidates are shown how to progress from Class C rigid vehicles to C+E articulated vehicles, focusing on the different driving techniques required. This course trains candidates to drive in a safe, efficient manner.

  • Module 3 - practical test
  • Practical driver training
  • Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)

Programme

  • Practical driver training
    • Trailer un-coupling and coupling procedure
    • On-road drive lasting at least 50 minutes
    • Reverse exercise

JAUPT Driver CPC

Duration: 35 hours

A driver CPC card is required when driving a vehicle for hire or reward. This can be obtained in two ways:

  • Periodic training
    • 35 hours over a 5-year period
    • For candidates who passed their driving test before 31st December 1996
  • Initial qualification
    • A theory and practical test for candidates who passed their driving test after 1st January 1997

We can advise the correct procedure for you and carry out all CPC training.

LGV Driver Assessor Course

Duration: 4 days

This fleet assessor training course is suitable for candidates who hold an LGV C or C+E licence. It prepares candidates to carry out driving assessments and includes training on demonstrating instructional techniques to rectify faults. The course covers the following subjects:

  • Vehicle familiarisation
  • Practical driving assessment
  • Demonstration driver and commentary
  • Observation and planning
  • Highway Code
  • Development of driving fault finding and analysis
  • Driver grading analysis
  • Report writing and feedback techniques

LGV Shunter Course

Duration: 2 days

This training course is designed for candidates who are required to operate LGV vehicle movements onsite without necessarily holding an LGV licence. The course can be delivered to a maximum of three candidates per trainer.

The course trains candidates to carry out vehicle movements safely with regards to the operating procedures of SSOW. We recommend a refresher course is taken every three years.
